The vast majority of Gloamweald products are made from stainless steel, although some contain other materials such as gemstones, fossils, bones, and adhesives. Stainless steel is used for its hardness, durability, and resistance to rust or corrosion. However, sturdy does not mean indestructible; with a little care, your piece from Gloamweald should last you a lifetime.
Two grades of stainless steel are used: 304 (SS304) and 316 (SS316). Both are highly resistant to corrosion and rust, with SS316 containing 2–3% higher molybdenum content, giving it a higher resistance to chlorides, saltwater, and chemicals. If you would like to know which grades a specific piece is made from, please inquire through email or Instagram and I can provide specific information; or in certain circumstances, offer SS316-only alternatives.
Products with spiked bars use a waterproof adhesive to lock the spike into place, and slide-lock clasps contain a magnet secured with a waterproof adhesive.
Bones are coated with a layer of Paraloid B-72, a product used in museums to repair and preserve bones, fossils, and ancient artefacts. This is to increase their strength and durability while maintaining a natural look.
Dry
Dry thoroughly with a soft cloth, paying attention to water caught between rings.
Store
Keep pieces dry and untangled. Store bone, fossil, and gemstone components with extra care.
Check
If a ring opens or a finding shifts, stop wearing the piece and contact Gloamweald for advice.
Quality and care concerns
Each Gloamweald piece is checked before posting. Chainmaille, bone, stone, fossil, and other natural or delicate components can vary, and some materials may need gentler handling than plain steel.
If your order arrives damaged, breaks unexpectedly, or you notice a fault, please email Gloamweald with your order reference and clear photos.
Care, damage, repair, replacement, or refund options are considered case by case depending on the item, material, issue, and circumstances.
While I have taken the utmost care in selecting high-quality, durable materials, I am aware that faults and breakages will often occur in clasps and the smaller links connecting units, sections, or pendants due to the repeated movement and tension on particularly small elements, long before the piece is ready for the grave. I want each piece to last you a lifetime. If a clasp or ring breaks from normal wear, please reach out for options.
Damage from rough handling, heavy pulling, impact, moisture exposure, incorrect storage, or normal wear may not be covered, but you are strongly encouraged to get in touch for advice or possible repair options.
